PE

This week we will be doing some extra athletics. Please could all children bring their outdoor PE kits on Friday too.

Homework

Thank you for all of the wonderful maps!  They were fabulous and we hope you enjoyed making them.  For homework this week we would like you to create a fact file about somewhere in the world you have visited, or have a member of your family from.   You can find tips and templates here

Topic

A reminder that our next walk around the parish will be:

Monday 30th April at 1.00 – all classes.

The walk can’t go ahead without your help so please let us know asap if you can come along!

Maths

Our focus next week is subtraction. We will also be doing some problem solving.

Literacy

We are continuing with our fables unit and will be writing our own stories.

This week we have a visit from our Patron of Reading, Ann Bryant, who will be sharing her experiences of being an author.

Extra information:

Is your child anxious or do they have difficulty in managing their emotions?

Come along to our information evening on the Decider Skills which is a set of skills to help them recognize and deal with difficult emotions such as anger, worry or sadness. The evening will allow families to use these different skills so that they can be used at home. Charlie Cox of the Youth Commission will lead the session and there will be a chance for you to ask questions afterwards.  For more information visit: http://www.thedecider.org.uk/

Weekly Update – Week Beginning 23.4.18

Dear Parents/Carers,

Swimming

Swimming commences this term. Please ensure your child has the appropriate swimming costume, a towel and a cap (goggles optional).

Miss Strange’s Class: Monday 9.00am

Mrs Le Prevost’s Class: Thursday 1pm

Miss Simpson’s Class: Thursday 1:45pm

If you are available to help with swimming please let your child’s class teacher know as soon as possible.

 

Homework

For homework this week we would like you to create a map of your journey to school or a journey that you take over the weekend.

 

Topic

Thanks to those parents who joined us for our walk in St Martin’s Village this week.  Our next walk will be on:

Monday 30th April at 1.00 – all classes.

Maths

We will be learning about directions, compass points and planning routes to link in with our topic.  We’ll also be taking our final halving and doubling rainbow test.

 

Literacy

We will be taking a walk through the school and thinking of adjectives to describe what we can see, hear and smell. The children will also be writing a range descriptions of different settings.

Week Beginning 16.4.18

Dear Parents/Carers, we hope you had a lovely Easter break.  We have a very exciting term ahead and hopefully the weather will start to warm up as we head outside to study the local area.  Here are some notices and reminders:

Swimming

Swimming recommences this term. Please ensure your child has the appropriate swimming costume, a towel and a cap (goggles optional).

Miss Simpson’s Class: Thursday 1:45pm

PE

PE continues as normal for all classes this term. Please ensure you have appropriate PE kit on the following days:

Mrs Le Prevost’s class: Wednesday (outdoors), Monday (indoors)

Miss Strange’s class: Wednesday (outdoors), Thursday (indoors)

Miss Simpson’s class: Wednesday (outdoors), Friday (indoors)

If possible please bring trainers on both days as if the weather is good we will try and go outside.

 

Homework

Homework will continue to be set on Friday and collected the following Wednesday, unless otherwise stated.  This week we’d like the children to familiarise themselves with the story of The Selfish Giant, and begin to learn it.

Topic

As part of our ‘local area’ topic we will be doing some walks around the area surrounding the school. We will need some parent volunteers on the following days to make this possible:

Miss Simpson’s class Tues 17th April (9:30)

Mrs Le Prevost’s class Tues 17th April (11:00)

Miss Strange’s class Weds 18th April (9:30)

 

Maths

We will be revisiting addition and subtraction with children practising both mental and written calculations.  In our topic lessons we will also be learning about position and direction. We will be continuing with the halving and doubling rainbow targets for the next 2 weeks.

Literacy

We will be starting a new unit on Fables, using The Selfish Giant as our inspiration.  Our Whole School Literacy Target this term is on Vocabulary, so we will be doing lots of work on different word classes, and making the best word choices in our writing.
