Week Beginning 09.10.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

Harvest

The children have been busy writing letters to go inside harvest boxes which will be given out in the local community.  This year we would like the children to create a team harvest box in class.  We will need you to bring in a shoe box and a non perishable food item or two to go into the box.

If you would still like to create your own box as a family, these need to be in school by Weds 11th October ready to be collected by the Guernsey Voluntary Service.

Finally, we would like to thank you for all of your effort finding costumes and give a gentle reminder that we need these by Monday at the latest.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 11th October at 2pm for the performance.

Homework

If you would like to stand as your class’ representative for School Council, your homework this week is to create a poster about you to present to your class on Thursday 12th.  Include a bit about you, any favourite hobbies, personal qualities and why you would like to be a school councillor.  If you would not like to stand for school councillor, please continue to do Mathletics,  read and learn your lines.

School Council

The School Council election will take place on Friday 13th.  We will be asking the candidates to present their poster on Thursday.

Literacy

This week we will be assessing our reading skills.  We will also be visited by a travelling theatre company later in the week.

Numeracy

We will be continuing to practise our mental maths skills.

Topic

We will be continuing with our plant topic and looking at observational drawing.

The Grammar School have kindly allowed some of their student to come and listen to readers in Year 3 on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.

Flu Vaccinations

Year 3 Team

Digital Leaders

We are introducing Digital Leaders across the school. One Digital Leader will be chosen per class and they will have various responsibilities including being a technical expert within their class and helping their peers to use digital technology. They will also be responsible for ensuring that the iPads are charged and looked after carefully. The Digital Leaders will be required to attend regular lunchtime meetings with all the other Digital Leaders where they will learn their responsibilities and be taught how to use apps more confidently as well as learning to use new apps which they can then show their class.

Interested children will be asked to apply for the role by filling in an application form. This process will start to give them awareness of the real world of work and how you have to apply and interview for a job.

The children have had an assembly to introduce them to what being a digital leader will involve and have brought home an application form if they are interested. Please talk about the role with your child and help them to fill in the application form if they would like to apply. It needs to be returned to your child’s teacher by Friday 13th October.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Karia.
